Personal and private 'one to one' makeup lessons and tutorials based in North London with Julie Jacobs. Personal Shopping. Bridal/wedding Makeup Artist. Julie is a London-based international Fashion & Beauty Makeup Artist, Beauty Editor/writer & Brand Consultant.
Helping people to feel confident in their skin - with or without makeup - is important to me and the main purpose of my personal makeup lessons. Our skin and features change throughout the years so altering our approach appropriately to skincare; textures; colours and application would benefit us also. My holistic approach encompasses all these elements. "Tell me and I will forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand" (Chinese proverb).
Makeup. The reason why we wear make-up the way we do is often a lot deeper than its surface appearance. We are all individuals and there is no ‘one size fits all’. I aim to assess, suggest, and teach skills that will optimise your beauty.
I’ll demonstrate each step on one half of your face and then guide you through completing the other side so you become accustomed to the angles and movements that suit you. I’ll also take high-quality photographs recording the different stages all of the way through to the completed looks. All products used and recommendations will be noted on your personalised face charts (I use a wide variety of brands from MAC; Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury; YSL; L’Oreal; Urban Decay; and Benefit to name a few).
Bring along your makeup bag, and I’ll advise on what you already own. Also, this is your time to ask the questions you’ve ever wanted to.
Grooming. Grooming is often overlooked but it is the building block for great makeup, it helps your makeup to radiate. Cleansing and nourishing the skin correctly, eyebrow maintenance and eyelash tinting are some of the aspects I’ll look at. Grooming optimises your ‘naked’ beauty, very useful for the days you don’t want to wear any makeup at all.
The skin. Like most things in life, a good foundation is vital. Working from the base (skin) up is fundamental in my approach to makeup. Cared for skin enables makeup to look its best. In the lesson we will cover the following: your morning and evening skincare routine. Treatments i.e. facials; waxing; electrolysis, eyelash tinting. Eyebrow shaping/grooming. Time management and lifestyle.
Base/Foundation. The correct colour and consistency for your complexion and skin type respectively are really important and is an area misjudged the most. I will look into the following:
* Testing foundation, tinted moisturiser, powder, and concealer shades correctly.
* Choosing the best format for your skin type i.e liquid; creams or powders
* Highlighting or contouring (if required at all)
* Specific coverage, such as acne, birthmarks, etc.
Blusher. I’ll take you through the differing effects using a cream or powder blushers has on the skin.
* Cream; liquid or powder blushers and which are best for your skin type and needs.
* Where to apply correctly for your face shape.
Eyes. What suits your eye shape? Most of us dream of achieving that dark sultry 'classic' smokey eye, but in all honesty, it doesn't suit everyone. That doesn’t mean you can’t achieve an equally deep sensual blended look with colours that suit you. For your eyes, I will help you to:
* Identify your eye shape
* Choose colours and textures; shading and highlighting
* The best technique to apply different products.
Lips. Whether you have full or fine lips you’ll learn how to make the most out of your shape by looking at the following:
* Types of lipsticks i.e. translucent or matt and which to apply for the look you are trying to achieve.
* Your lip shape and how to alter it.
* Suitable colours for you.
* How and when (or not) to use lip pencils.
